10.08.010 Generally.

A. Whenever any words or phrases used in this title are not defined, but are defined in the Vehicle Code of the State of California and amendments thereto, such definitions shall apply.

B. The words and phrases set forth in this chapter when used in this title shall, for the purpose of this title, have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this chapter.

10.08.020 Central traffic district.

"Central traffic district" means all streets and portions of streets within the area described as follows: All that area bounded by Spruce, Virginia, Magnolia and Vermont Streets.

10.08.030 Coach.

"Coach" means any motor bus, motor coach, trackless trolley, or passenger stage used as a common carrier of passengers.

10.08.035 Commercial vehicle.

"Commercial vehicle" means any motor vehicle having a width greater than 94 inches or having a gross vehicle weight rating of more than five tons.

10.08.040 Council.

"Council" means the City Council of the City of Gridley.

10.08.050 Curb.

"Curb" means the lateral boundary of the roadway whether such curb be marked by curbing construction, or not so marked. Curb, as used in this title, shall not include the line dividing the roadway of a street from parking strips in the center of a street, nor from tracks or rights-of-way of public utility companies.

10.08.060 Divisional island.

"Divisional island" means the raised island located in the roadway and separating opposing or conflicting streams of traffic.

10.08.070 Holidays.

Within the meaning of this title, "holidays" are the first day of January, the legal observance of Memorial Day, the fourth of July, the first Monday in September, Thanksgiving Day, and the twenty-fifth day of December.

10.08.080 Loading zone.

"Loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials.

10.08.090 Official time standard.

Whenever certain hours are named in this title, they shall mean standard time or daylight saving time as may be in current use in this city.

10.08.100 Parking meter.

"Parking meter" means a mechanical device installed within or upon the curb or sidewalk area, immediately adjacent to a parking space, for the purpose of controlling the period of time occupancy of such parking meter space by any vehicle. (Ord. 530(part), 1988).

10.08.110 Parkway.

"Parkway" means that portion of a street other than a roadway or a sidewalk.

10.08.120 Passenger loading zone.

"Passenger loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers. (Ord. 530(part), 1988).

10.08.130 Pedestrian.

"Pedestrian" means any person afoot.

10.08.140 Police Officer.

"Police Officer" means every officer of the police department of this city or any officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations.

"Stop," when required, means complete cessation of movement.

"Vehicle Code" means the Vehicle Code of the State of California.
