Carlsbad Municipal Code Ch. 18.09 Existing Building Code

A. The 2025 California Existing Building Code, California Code of Regulations, Title 24, a portion of the California Building Standards Code, is adopted in its entirety and incorporated by this reference as the existing building code. The following appendices of the existing building code are adopted: Appendix A (Guidelines for the Seismic Retrofit of Existing Buildings) and B (Supplementary Accessibility Requirements for Existing Buildings and Facilities). The following sections, chapters, or appendices are deleted: Sections 103, 104, 106 through 108, and 110 through 115; and Appendices C and D.

B. The provisions of this code that are adopted by the city shall apply to all existing buildings and structures for which a legal building permit has been issued, including, but not limited to, any appurtenances connected or attached to such buildings or structures. Any reference to the California Building Code within the California Existing Building Code includes all local building code amendments as adopted by the city.

C. The building official is hereby authorized and directed to apply the administrative, organizational and enforcement rules and regulations of the city's building code, as amended, to implement the existing building code. Administrative provisions relating to deleted sections of the existing building code are specified in Sections 103, 104, and 108 through 116 of the California Building Code, Part 2, Volume 1, Chapter 1-Division II, as amended and adopted by the city.
