10.36.010 - Setting of speed limit on certain streets.¶
Pursuant to California Vehicle Code Section 22357, the city of Brisbane has determined to modify standard prima facie speed limits on certain streets other than state highways, on the basis of a traffic and engineering study, to facilitate the reasonable and safe orderly movement of vehicle traffic. The director of public works is authorized to post and establish signs giving notice of speed limits, as authorized by California Vehicle Code Section 22357, and as determined by an engineering and traffic survey completed pursuant to the then current requirements of the California Vehicle Code, the Federal Highway Administration's Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), and the California MUTCD.
(Ord. No. 584, § 1, 4-21-14)
Editor's note— Ord. No. 584, § 1, adopted April 21, 2014, in effect repealed the former § 10.36.010 and enacted a new § 10.36.010 as set out herein. The former § 10.36.010 pertained to increase of speed limit on certain streets and derived from Ord. No. 38, 1962; Ord. 391 § 2, 1993; Ord. No. 427, 1998 and Ord. No. 499, 2005.
10.36.025 - Decrease of speed limit on portion of Monterey Street.¶
Based upon a traffic study, it is determined that the normal speed limit for residential streets is unsafe and excessive for a portion of Monterey Street and a lower limit is required in order to avoid unreasonable hazards for vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Accordingly, a special limit of fifteen (15) miles per hour is declared to be the prima facie speed limit for the portion of Monterey Street from Visitacion Avenue to Solano Street when signs are erected giving notice thereof.
(Ord. 430 § 1, 1999).
10.36.030 - Regulation of speed by traffic signals.¶
The city traffic engineer is authorized to regulate the timing of traffic signals so as to permit the movement of traffic in an orderly and safe manner at speeds slightly at variance from the speeds otherwise applicable within the district or at intersections, and shall erect appropriate signs giving notice thereof.
(Ord. 38 § 17.2, 1962).
