§ 10.16.010. Truck Route Established.¶
A. Whenever any ordinance of this City designates and describes any street or portion thereof as a street the use of which is permitted by any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of five tons, the Director of Public Works is authorized and directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs on those streets affected by such ordinance to designate such street or streets as "truck traffic route" or "truck route" for the movement of vehicles exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of five tons.
B. Except as provided in Section 10.16.030, when any such truck traffic route or routes are established and designated by appropriate signs, the operator of any vehicle exceeding the maximum gross weight limit of five tons shall drive on such route or routes and none other.
C. Those streets and parts of streets described in Section 10.16.040 of this chapter are declared to be truck traffic routes for the movement of vehicles exceeding the maximum gross weight of five tons.
§ 10.16.020. Vehicles Exceeding a Maximum Gross Weight Limit of Five Tons Prohibited…¶
Those streets and parts of streets described in Section 10.16.050 of this chapter are declared to be streets the use of which is prohibited by any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight of five tons. The Director of Public Works shall erect and maintain appropriate signs on those streets designating such streets as prohibited to vehicles exceeding a maximum gross weight of five tons. Except as provided in Section 10.16.030 of this chapter, after such signs have been erected, it is unlawful for anyone to operate a vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight of five tons on any such street.
§ 10.16.030. Exceptions.¶
The provisions of this chapter restricting vehicles exceeding a maximum gross weight of five tons to designated streets shall not apply to the following:
A. To any vehicle which is subject to Sections 1031 to 1036, inclusive, of the Public Utilities Code, relating to passenger stage corporations (Vehicle Code Section 35701).
B. To vehicles used for the collection and transportation of garbage, rubbish, or refuse using traditionally used routes.
C. To unloaded trucks coming from an unrestricted street having ingress and egress by direct route to and from a restricted street when necessary for the purpose of parking at the residence of the truck driver located on a restricted street.
D. To unloaded trucks coming from an unrestricted street having ingress and egress by direct route to and from a restricted street when necessary for the purpose of transporting the truck to a bona fide truck repair and maintenance shop located on a restricted street.
E. To commercial vehicles coming from an unrestricted street having ingress and egress by direct route to and from a restricted street when necessary for the purpose of making pickups or deliveries of goods, wares, and merchandise from or to any building or structure located on a restricted street or for the purpose of delivering materials to be used in the actual bona fide repair, alteration, remodeling, or construction of any building or structure upon the restricted street for which a building permit has previously been obtained (Vehicle Code Section 35703).
F. To any vehicle owned by a public utility or a licensed contractor while necessary in use in the construction, installation, or repair of any public utility (Vehicle Code Section 35704).
§ 10.16.040. Truck Routes Designated.¶
In accordance with Section 10.16.010 and when signs are erected giving notice thereof, the following streets or portions streets are hereby declared to be truck traffic routes for movement of vehicles exceeding the maximum gross weight of five tons:
A. H Street, between Railroad Avenue and South Railroad.
B. Hatchery Road, between South Railroad and the South City Limits.
C. Taylor Way, between Hatchery Road and the West End of Taylor Way.
D. Monda Way.
E. Railroad Avenue, between Greenwood Road and the East City Limits.
F. South Railroad Avenue, between G Street and Hatchery Road.
G. Greenwood Road, between Blue Lake Blvd. and Railroad Avenue.
H. G Street, between Railroad Avenue and South Railroad Avenue.
§ 10.16.050. Vehicles Exceeding Gross Weight Limit of Five Tons Prohibited.¶
In accordance with Section 10.16.020, the following streets and portions of streets are hereby declared to be streets for which the use of streets is prohibited to any vehicle exceeding the maximum gross weight of five tons: All streets within the City limits of the City of Blue Lake, except those streets and portions of streets designated as truck traffic routes in Section 10.16.040 of this chapter.
§ 10.16.060. Penalties.¶
Any violation of this chapter shall be an infraction and any person, upon conviction of said infraction, shall be punished in accordance with the penalties for infractions as provided by the State of California in the Vehicle Code and/or the Penal Code.
