13.16.010 Numbers to be in accordance with official map.

All structures abutting on any public street, avenue, drive, road, lane or place within the City shall be given and marked with an official number. The marks shall be in accordance with a certain map entitled “Official House Numbering Map of Belvedere,” prepared by and on file in the office of the City Clerk. (Ord. 51 NS § 1, 1947; prior code § 5-5.)

13.16.020 Numbering system described.

Numbers shall proceed from the smaller number to the largest at the beginning of each street and block as shown upon the map in Section 13.16.010 referred to. Even numbers shall be given to and placed upon structures fronting on the east and north sides of such streets, avenues, drives, roads, lanes or places, and the odd numbers shall be given to and placed upon structures fronting on the other side of such streets, avenues, drives, roads, lanes or places. 13.16.030 Assignment of numbers—Mayor’s authority.

In case of doubt or when a question arises as to the proper number to be assigned to any structure, the Mayor shall decide the question and fix the number of such structure. (Ord. 51 NS § 3, 1947; prior code § 5-7.)

13.16.040 Placement required.

There shall be conspicuously placed on each structure now or hereafter erected and fronting on any street, avenue, drive, road, lane or place, the official number as provided by this Chapter. (Ord. 51 NS § 4, 1947; prior code § 5-8.)

13.16.050 Composition and location of numbers.

The number plate placed upon any structure shall be of metal or wood, or the number may be painted on the front of the building, door, post or other place nearest the street, avenue, drive, road, lane or place upon which the structure fronts. (Ord. 51 NS § 5, 1947; prior code § 5-9.)

13.16.060 Failure to place or replace numbers—Notice required.

If the owner or lessee of any structure shall fail, neglect or refuse to place the number, or replace it when necessary, the City Clerk may and upon order of the City Council shall cause a notice to be personally served on such owner or lessee ordering him to place or replace the number. Such owner or lessee shall comply with such notice within ten days from the date of such service. (Ord. 51 NS § 6, 1947; prior code § 5-10.)

13.16.070 Violation deemed public nuisance—Penalty.

Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this Chapter shall be punishable as provided in Chapter 1.12. of this code. In addition, any building or structure erected or maintained and any work commenced or continued in violation of this Chapter is declared unlawful and a public nuisance. (Ord. 77-5 § l, 1977; prior code § 5-11.)
