3.32.010 - Unclaimed property.

Unclaimed property is any property left unattended, abandoned or deposited anywhere within the city limits.

3.32.020 - Delivery to police department.

Any unclaimed property found by any citizen, resident or person, including any peace officer shall be immediately delivered to the police department for safekeeping.

3.32.030 - Holding by police department.

Upon receipt of any unclaimed property, the police department shall hold such property on behalf of its owner for a period of at least three months.

3.32.040 - Claiming unclaimed property.

Any person attempting to claim any unclaimed property shall identify such property to the reasonable satisfaction of the police department prior to release of the property.

3.32.050 - Release of unclaimed property.

Any unclaimed property properly identified by its owner may be released to such owner by the police department.

3.32.060 - Forfeiture of unclaimed property.

Upon expiration of the three month holding period, all unclaimed property shall be deemed forfeited to the city, and the police department shall be authorized to transfer all unclaimed cash to the city for deposit in the general fund, and to sell or otherwise dispose of any other unclaimed personal property at public auction to the highest bidder or to sell or otherwise dispose of such property in any other reasonable way and to transfer all proceeds of sale to the city for deposit in the general fund.

3.32.070 - Notices.

The police department shall give five days notice of any intended public auction or sale of unclaimed property by publication once in a newspaper of general circulation in the city stating that the proceeds of sale on the property will be transferred to the city for the public use and benefit following public auction.
