§ 11-1. FIRE CODE¶

Except as otherwise provided for in the chapter by specific provision, the minimum standards, provisions, and requirements for the safe construction and maintenance of property, facilities, conditions, materials, equipment, fire prevention and alarm systems, and the general supervision thereof for the purpose of combating and control of fire and fire hazard and abatement of same within the corporate limits of the City shall be in accordance with the provisions and in the manner prescribed by the California Fire Code, 2025 edition (CFC), in its entirety, as published by the International Code Council, and including Appendixes B, BB, C, CC, D, E, F, G, H, I, K, N and O, all as compiled, adopted, and subsequently amended by the International Code Council, California State Fire Marshal's Office, California Building Standards Commission, or City of Albany.
§ 11-2. PURPOSE¶

The Fire Code shall regulate and govern the safeguards of life and property from fire and explosion hazards arising from the storage, handling and use of hazardous substances, materials and devices, and from conditions hazardous to life or property in the occupancy of buildings and premises as herein provided; provide for the issuance of permits and collection of fees therefor; and each and all of the regulations, provisions, penalties, conditions and terms of said Fire Code.
§ 11-3. AUTHORITY¶

The Fire Chief or agent of the Fire Chief may order, in writing, the correction, elimination or abatement of any fire or life hazard or any violation of this chapter, including the code and standards incorporated by reference herein, when the correction, elimination or abatement is necessary for the prevention or suppression of fires or conflagrations or for the protection or preservation of life or property against the hazards of fire or conflagration.

The Albany Planning and Zoning Commission shall serve as the local appeals board and where referenced in the California Fire Code.
