18-2.1 - How Sewers to be Constructed.¶
All sewers and appurtenances shall be constructed in accordance with the latest adopted California Department of Transportation Standard Specifications and City standards as approved by the City Engineer.

18-2.2 - Supervision by Street Superintendent.¶
All work must be done and all materials furnished under the direction of the Superintendent of Streets and to his/her satisfaction.

18-2.3 - Removal and Disposition of Material.¶
In opening any improved street or sidewalk for the purpose of laying any sewer, all materials used in improving such street or sidewalk must be removed with the least possible injury or loss of the same, and it and the other materials excavated must be so placed as to cause the least practicable inconvenience to the public. The material used in improving the surface must, when removed, be placed by itself and must be replaced by the contractor in the same manner in which it was originally, and the surface must be left in as good condition as it was before. No pipes shall be covered nor any fillings put into any trench till authorized by the Superintendent of Streets. All excavations shall be made under his/her direction, and only so much excavation in advance of the laying of pipes and refilling of trenches shall be made as he/she may authorize.

18-2.4 - Inspection of Material by Street Superintendent.¶
All materials to be used in the construction of any sewer shall, after being brought upon the ground, be inspected by the Superintendent of Streets before being used, and all materials rejected by him/her shall be at once removed from the premises by the contractor, and shall not be returned.

18-2.5 - Maintenance of Flashing Lights.¶
All contractors and other persons making any trench in any street for the purpose of laying a sewer shall at night maintain flashing lights burning at every (30°) feet along the trench, throughout the entire night, and must take all other necessary precautions to guard people against all accidents and danger.
