Editor's note— Ord. No. 2025-37, § 2, adopted June 17, 2025, repealed the former Ch. 6.05, §§ 6.05.010—6.05.050, and enacted a new Ch. 6.05 as set out herein. The former Ch. 6.05 pertained to similar subject matter and derived from Ord. No. 2009-4, § 1, adopted February 10, 2009.

This chapter shall be known as the "Fire Severity Map Ordinance."

The purpose of this chapter is to designate fire hazard severity zones that the state fire marshal has identified pursuant to Government Code Section 51178.

This chapter shall apply to the unincorporated area of Alameda County, except for any area where a fire protection district has duly adopted a more stringent ordinance under Government Code Section 51179.

The county of Alameda designates the fire hazard severity zones within the jurisdiction set forth in Section 6.05.030, as recommended by the state fire marshal and reflected in the map labeled "Alameda County—Unincorporated LRA, Local Responsibility Area Fire Hazard Severity Zones," dated February 24, 2025. That map, and all subsequent versions recommended by the state fire marshal (hereinafter collectively the "Alameda County Fire Hazard Severity Zones Map"), are adopted by reference and declared to be a part of this chapter. Subsequent versions of the map recommended by the state fire marshal shall become the Alameda County Fire Hazard Severity Zones Map upon adoption by resolution of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. The Alameda County Fire Hazard Severity Zones Map shall be on file at the Alameda County Fire Department's Fire Administration Offices and on the Alameda County Fire Department website.
