§ 10.08.010. Generally.

The following words and phrases when used in Chapters 10.04 through 10.56 shall for the purpose of Chapters 10.04 through 10.56 have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this chapter.

§ 10.08.020. Motor Vehicle Code definitions to be used.

Whenever any words or phrases used in Chapters 10.04 through 10.52 are not defined, but are defined in the Vehicle Code of the State of California, such definitions shall apply.

§ 10.08.030. Coach.

"Coach"

means any motor bus, motor coach, trackless trolley or passenger stage as used as a common carrier of passengers.

"Council"

means the Council of the City of Union City.

§ 10.08.050. Curb.

"Curb"

means the lateral boundary of the roadway whether such curb is marked by curbing construction or not so marked. "Curb" as used in Chapters 10.04 through 10.56, does not include the line dividing the roadway of a street from tracks or rights-of-way of public utility companies.

§ 10.08.060. Divisional island.

"Divisional island"

means a raised island located in the roadway and separating opposing or conflicting streams of traffic.

§ 10.08.070. Holidays.

Within the meanings of Chapters 10.04 through 10.52, "holidays" are those days recognized by the Federal Government. When those holidays fall upon a Sunday, the Monday following is a holiday.

§ 10.08.080. Loading zone.

"Loading zone"

means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials.

§ 10.08.090. Official time standard.

Whenever certain hours are named in Chapters 10.04 through 10.56, they mean standard time or daylight saving time as may be in current use in this City.

§ 10.08.100. Parking meter.

"Parking meter"

means a mechanical device installed within or upon the curb or sidewalk area, immediately adjacent to a parking space, for the purpose of controlling the period of time occupancy of such parking meter space by any vehicle.

§ 10.08.110. Parkway.

"Parkway"

means that portion of a street other than a roadway or a sidewalk.

§ 10.08.120. Passenger loading zone.

"Passenger loading zone"

means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers.

"Pedestrian"

means any person afoot.

§ 10.08.140. Police Officer.

"Police Officer"

means every officer of the Police Department of this City or any Police Department employee authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations.

"Stop,"

when required, means complete cessation of movement.

means the Vehicle Code of the State of California.
