5.52.010 - Advertising vehicles.¶
No person shall operate or drive any vehicle used for advertising purposes or any advertising vehicle equipped with a sound-amplifying or loud-speaking device upon any street or alley at any time within any business district.

5.52.020 - Truck routes.¶
A. TRUCK ROUTES DEFINED. "Truck routes" means those streets or portions thereof which are designated in this section, the use of which is permitted by any vehicle not exceeding the maximum gross weight of vehicles and loads specified in the California Vehicle Code.
B. GROSS WEIGHT DEFINED. "Gross weight" means the sum of the weight in pounds of the vehicle and its load.
C. TON DEFINED. "Ton" means two thousand pounds.
D. TRUCK ROUTES. The following main streets and portions thereof are designated as truck routes: Francisco Boulevard, Jordan Street, Lincoln Avenue from the north line of Third Street to its intersection with Irwin Street, San Pedro Road, Second Street, Third Street, DuBois Street from Irwin Street to Woodland Avenue, Fourth Street from its westerly terminus to Second Street, Irwin Street from Third Street to Woodland Avenue, Lindaro Street from Third Street to Jordan Street, Lovell Avenue from Irwin Street to Jordan Street, and Woodland Avenue from its easterly terminus to Irwin Street, and all of that certain frontage road easterly of and continuous to U.S. Highway 101 from the northerly limits of the city of San Rafael to a point seven hundred feet south of the Terra Linda Overpass, which frontage road is commonly referred to as "Redwood Highway."
E. RESTRICTED STREETS. No person shall operate any vehicle that exceeds a maximum gross weight limit of thirteen tons on any street in the city of San Rafael except the streets or potions thereof designated above as truck routes.
F. COMMERCIAL VEHICLES. Nothing contained herein shall prohibit any commercial vehicle coming from an unrestricted street having ingress and egress by direct route to and from a restricted street when necessary for the purpose of:
(1) Making pickups or deliveries of goods, wares and merchandise from or to any building or structure located on the restricted street; or
(2) Delivering materials to be used in the actual and bonafide repair, alteration, remodeling or construction of any building or structure upon the restricted street for which a building permit has previously been obtained; or
(3) Picking up materials that must necessarily be removed in the actual and bonafide repair, alteration, remodeling or construction of any building or structure upon the restricted street for which a building permit has previously been obtained.
G. EXCEPTIONS. This section shall not apply to:
Any vehicle which is subject to the provisions of Sections 1031 to 1036, inclusive, of the Public Utilities Code of the state of California; and
Any vehicle owned by a public utility or a licensed contractor while necessarily in use in the construction, installation or repair of any public utility.
H. NOTICE. The city council of San Rafael determines that posting signs on the truck routes hereinabove designated will best serve to give notice of this section.
I. POSTING SIGNS. The department of public works of the city of San Rafael shall erect suitable signs along the streets designated above as truck routes, which signs shall give adequate notice that the posted street is a truck route.

5.52.021 - Weight limits.¶
A. No person shall operate any vehicle that exceeds a maximum gross weight of five (5) tons upon the following described streets or portions thereof:
(1) All of Twin Oaks Avenue, from its terminus to Fairhills Drive;
(2) Fairhills Drive from Twin Oaks Avenue to Forbes Avenue;
(3) All of Forbes Avenue from its terminus to Mission Avenue;
(4) All of "H" Street from Fourth Street to Forbes Avenue.
(5) Hayes Street between First and Second Streets.
(6) Miramar Avenue between First and Second Streets;
(7) Shaver Street between First and Second Streets;
(8) E Street between First and Frances Streets;
(9) D Street between Second Street and the City limit at Wolfe Grade;
(10) First Street between Hayes Street and Miramar Avenue;
(11) Entire Bayview Street;
(12) Entire Octavia Street;
(13) C Street between First Street and Wolfe Avenue;
(14) Woodland Avenue between Lindaro and B Streets;
(15) Entire Treanor Street; and
(16) Entire Taylor Street.
B. This section shall not apply to any vehicles described in Sections 35703 and 35704 of the Vehicle Code of the State of California.
C. This section shall not be effective until appropriate signs are erected, indicating the streets affected by this section.
D. Any violations of this section shall be deemed to be a misdemeanor and shall be punishable in accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Code of the City of San Rafael.
