Sec. 46-301. - Manner of numbering.

All lots and buildings within the city shall be known and designated in the following manner:

(1) All lots and buildings on all streets running north and south, north of First Street, shall be numbered from south to north, commencing at First Street, the baseline; and all lots and buildings on all streets running north and south, south of First Street, shall be numbered from north to south, commencing at First Street, the baseline.

(2) All lots and buildings on all streets running east and west, west of Garey Avenue, shall be numbered from east to west, commencing at Garey Avenue, the baseline; and all lots and buildings on all streets running east and west, east of Garey Avenue, shall be numbered from west to east, commencing at Garey Avenue, the baseline.

(3) As near as may be, 20 feet shall be allotted to each number.

Sec. 46-302. - Exceptions to manner of numbering.

Exceptions to section 46-301 are as follows:

(1) All lots and buildings on Rio Rancho Road running east of State Route 71 to Garey Avenue shall be numbered west to east, commencing on State Route 71.

(2) All lots and buildings on Auto Center Drive running north and south of Rio Rancho Road shall be numbered north to south, commencing at the north end of Auto Center Drive, a cul-de-sac.

(3) All lots and buildings on Innovation Way running south of Kellogg Drive to Temple Avenue shall be numbered north to south commencing on Kellogg Drive.

Sec. 46-303. - Assignment for each block; size of numbers.

One hundred numbers shall be assigned, so far as possible and practical, to each and every block within the city. Figures used for such numbers shall be not less than 3½ inches in height and shall be placed immediately over or by the side of one of the doors next to the street or other place of the building easily visible from the street.

Sec. 46-304. - Exceptions to assignment of numbers.

As an exception to section 46-303, numbers commencing with 1 and continuing through 99 shall be assigned to those lots and buildings on Rio Rancho Road between State Route 71 and Garey Avenue; on Auto Center Drive between the northerly terminus and southerly terminus of such street; and on Innovation Way between Kellogg Drive and Temple Avenue.

Sec. 46-305. - Even and odd numbers designated.

Lots and buildings on the south and east sides of all streets shall be designated by even numbers, and lots and all buildings on the north and west sides of all streets shall be designated by odd numbers.

Sec. 46-306. - Assignment of individual numbers.

Upon application for the proper number of a premises, it shall be the duty of the director of public works/city engineer to assign to each building, store or residence the proper number and deliver to each owner or occupant, free of charge, the certificate designating the number to be placed on such building, store or residence.

Sec. 46-307. - Failure to comply; visibility.

(a) Any person having received the certificate provided for in this article who shall, for 30 days, fail, refuse or neglect to number any building in conformity with this article or shall number it without first having obtained the proper number thereof is guilty of a misdemeanor.

(b) Building numbers displayed on a building shall be readily visible from the nearest street.
