Sec. 34-280. - Purpose.

The purpose of this division is to limit the sale to persons under the age of 18 certain items that have been determined to pose a threat to the safety and general welfare. The city council finds that there has been an increase in the number of incidents, particularly near school facilities and during school hours, involving dangerous and disruptive items.

Sec. 34-281. - Restricted items.

No person or business shall sell, provide, give away, canvass, or solicit for the sale of any of the following items to any person under the age of 18 years of age prior to those times listed in section 34-282:

(1) Pop-rock candy,

(2) Smoke bombs,

(3) Stink bombs,

(4) Toy pistol caps, as defined in section 34-112(b),

(5) Cap balls,

(6) Toy cap guns,

(7) Laser pointers,

(8) Toy guns,

(9) Dart guns,

(10) Slingshots,

(11) Toy knives, and

(12) Lighters.

Sec. 34-282. - Restricted times of sales.

No person or business shall sell, provide, give away, canvass, or solicit for the sale of any items listed in section 34-281 to any person under the age of 18 years of age prior to 3:15 p.m. each weekday, and after 8:00 p.m. on any day of the week.
