15.20 — CONNECTIONS

§ 15.20.010. Permit required.¶
No person shall uncover, make any connection with or opening into, use, alter or disturb any public sewer or appurtenance thereof without first obtaining a written permit from the director of public works, or his authorized representative. § 15.20.020. Notice of readiness for inspection and connection.¶
The holder of a building sewer permit shall notify the building official when the building sewer is ready for inspection and connection to the public sewer. (Prior code § 7751.1; Ord. 912 § 2, 1971)
§ 15.20.030. Supervision of connection.¶
The connection to the public sewer shall be made under the supervision of the director of public works, or his authorized representative.

§ 15.20.040. Indemnification of city.¶
The permittee and the owner shall indemnify the city and hold it harmless from any loss or damage that may be directly or indirectly occasioned by the installation of the building sewer and from any liability in connection therewith. (Prior code § 7752; Ord. 912 § 2, 1971)
§ 15.20.050. Regulations governing connections.¶
No permittee or other person shall make any connection of a building sewer to a public sewer except in compliance with the following regulations. (Prior code § 7753; Ord. 912 § 2, 1971)
§ 15.20.060. "Y" branch.¶
The connection of the building sewer into the public sewer shall be made at the "Y" branch, if such branch is available at a suitable location. (Prior code § 7753.1; Ord. 912 § 2, 1971)
§ 15.20.070. Saddle connections.¶
Where no "Y" is available at a suitable location, the sewer connection may be made with either a standard "Y" saddle constructed with lugs to prevent protrusion through the public sewer or a standard replacement "Y" joint with the proper mechanical joint connectors. § 15.20.080. Elevation of the invert at connection.¶
The invert of the building sewer at the point of connection shall be above the springline of the

public sewer. (Prior code § 7753.3; Ord. 912 § 2, 1971)
§ 15.20.090. Direction of the connection.¶
The building sewer connection shall enter the public sewer at an angle of about forty-five degrees to the direction of flow of sewage in the public sewer. (Prior code § 7753.4; Ord. 912 § 2, 1971)
§ 15.20.100. Method of connection construction.¶
Where the saddle connection is made using a standard saddle with protruding lugs, the hole in the public sewer shall be made no larger than necessary to accept the saddle connector. The joint area shall be wrapped with no fewer than six strands of No. 10 galvanized wire encircling both the public sewer and protruding saddle lugs. The joint area will then be encased with Class "B" concrete four inches thick and eighteen inches in length entirely around the pipe at the location of the saddle.

§ 15.20.110. Special fittings approval.¶
Special fittings may be used for the connection only when approved by the director of public works or his authorized representative.
