§ 5.03.010. Leaving animals unattended in parked vehicles prohibited.

(a) No person shall leave an animal, wild or domestic, in any unattended motor vehicle without proper food, water or ventilation, so as to subject the same to extreme temperature (either hot or cold), affecting the ambient temperature of the animal, which would adversely affect its health or safety. In the event any animal is so confined, the enforcing authority may enter such vehicle by whatever reasonable force is necessary to release the animal without any liability upon the city or the enforcing authority for resulting damages. The enforcing authority, absent owner or responsible individual, may impound said animal.

(b) As used in this section, "motor vehicle" includes, without limitation, automobiles, pickup trucks, other trucks and trailers.

(c) Any person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable as misdemeanors are punishable by the laws of the State of California.
