We encourage you to file your service request(s) via our E-Services Portal, which allows your request to be sent electronically to our office. Using the E-Service Portal allows for faster processing times, greater accuracy, and creates a quicker communication path to address document matters if needed.

Look up existing Civil File Status using the Levying Officer File Number and Court Case Number
To help with the transition, we have step-by-step instructions for how to use the e-Services Portal.

Linked below are our commonly used civil instruction forms. For most documents, please use the Civil Instruction Letter (FORM 1). If it is a Writ of Possession, please use the Eviction Instruction Letter (FORM 2). Please note, these forms are in compliance with GOV § 26666.10, which took effect on Jan. 1, 2024. Former NSCO Sheriff instruction forms are no longer valid or available for use.
FORM 1 SER-001: Instructions for Service of Documents
FORM 2 SER-001A: All Writs and Levies
For evictions, both forms, SER-001 AND SER-001A are required.
For any court forms, please refer to the California Courts Website at www.courts.ca.gov.
If you would like the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office to attempt service of your documents, please include the following:
Documents for service (appropriate number of copies)
Completed Instruction Form (specific to the type of service)
Payment (forms of payment listed above)
All documents and payment may be mailed or can be brought into our office for service (see our contact info to the right). The Civil Division operates under the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office and is located inside the same building at the Eric Rood Administrative Center. If the fee is waived for service, the documents, instruction letter and fee waiver may be electronically emailed to civil@nevadacountyca.gov.
Service Attempts
Service of documents are attempted three times. Each attempt will be on a different day and time. If service is successful, a proof of service will be mailed to you and the court listed on the documents. If the service is unsuccessful, a proof of due diligence that shows the three attempts and why it was unsuccessful, will be mailed to you.
