Marin County Sheriff's Office Social Media Program
The goal of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Social Media Program is to be engaged with the community and show the public that we are committed to partnering with you to provide leadership and excellence in public safety.
In general there are three types of messages that we post. These categories are based on the following whether it’s an Alert, Advisory, and/or a Community message.
Alert Messages
Alert messages reserved for critically important information where loss of life and/or property is potentially imminent, are made using the most immediate delivery modes.
Examples: severe weather warning, gas leak, contagious disease outbreak, wildfire, tsunami warning, missing person (ie. Child or Elder Adult)

Advisory Messages
Advisory messages that contain important, need to know information. Advisories should be considered less time-critical than Alerts and require a heightened sense of awareness.
Examples: Road closure/detour, school closing, severe weather , public safety activity.

Community Messages
Community messages that are used to convey everyday local news, happenings and developments.
Examples: community updates, crime trends, town hall meetings, news/announcements and event reminders.
