Form CV-302 COURT REPORTER REALTIME SYSTEM CONFIGURATION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CONTRA COSTA SUPERIOR COURT

The Contra Costa Superior Court utilizes “LiveNote 10” software by Thomson West on
all judicial officer PCs to accept Realtime transmissions from a wide variety of court
reporter Computer-Assisted-Transcription (CAT) software for judicial viewing in the
Courtroom. The following information explains how to connect reporter CAT system to
a judicial officer’s Livenote system. It discusses hardware and software configurations,
connection and disconnection processes, and support are listed below:

HARDWARE
Aside from the connection to the stenotype machine, the court reporter must have an
unused 9-pin serial port (build in, PCMCIA, or USB Adapter).

SOFTWARE
CAT software capable of transmitting Realtime using the above serial connection.

Bits per second: 2400
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: None

CONNECTION PROCESS
The court reporter will connect the Court-provided Realtime adapter located in each
courtroom near the Court-reporter table to the correctly configured 9-pin serial port on
the court reporter’s workstation.

* The court reporter must be able to identify the COM port number their system has
assigned this serial connection.

DISCONNECTION PROCESS
The court reporter will disconnect the Court-provided realtime adapter and return it to its
previous location.

SUPPORT
Court-employed computer technicians do not directly support personally owned
equipment. They are allowed to consult and advise the court reporter on the information
above for correctly configured equipment and software.

Questions and support should be directed first to the local computer technician support
through the judicial or courtroom assistant. Where this is problematic, dispatch of a
