SANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA: The Superior Court of Sonoma County’s first dedicated Probate department will open on January 3, 2022, in Department 23 in the Civil and Family Law Courthouse.

After many years of planning and resource analysis, The Superior Court of Sonoma County is pleased to announce the creation of the court’s first dedicated probate department. For several decades the probate department has been part of a hybrid civil/probate configuration. “It has been a long time coming, but we are now in a position to maintain a permanent probate department in our court. We can no longer manage the caseload with hybrid staffing and hybrid resource allocation. The filings are increasing, and we must address the demand. We will now have a department focused on probate, trust and conservatorship matters,” says presiding judge Brad DeMeo. The court will continue to staff and operate four civil departments in addition to the dedicated probate department.

Honorable Lawrence Ornell will preside over the new department.
