SUPERIOR COURT OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA FOR THE COUNTY OF DEL NORTE Standing Order 22-002 Regarding Fine/Fee Reduction The Del Norte Superior Court adopts this policy regarding de minimus fee reduction to the lowest whole dollar when accepting cash payments. Effective January 1, 2022, AB77 eliminated the Installment Charge Fee applied to case accounts when defendants requested to pay their fine balance with monthly payments. The passage of AB77 additionally required Courts to cease the collection of any outstanding balances of this fee. The enactment of AB77 has resulted in some fine balances not in whole dollars. Effort put into collecting the cents from a fine balance would result in a much higher cost to the court than the cents being collected. Eliminating the cent balance allows the court to remain efficient and also help with the national coin shortage. Therefore, the Court will not collect the cents owing on a fine when accepting a cash payment!, Instead, the final amount owed will be reduced to the lower whole dollar amount in place of the actual balance. For example, a balance of $35.16 will be rounded to $35.00. This Order applies to cash payments only.
